We’re going to have a bounty of pork to eat this fall and winter after recently taking a pig to the locker. I’ve asked some of my fellow Iowa Bloggers to help me put together a delicious variety of recipes to use with this pork we’re getting this week. They graciously agreed and we’ve put together quite a “Pork-nic” for you!

My favorite pork recipe on the blog will have to be the $17,500 Sour Apple Pork Burger recipe that won the Sutter Home Winery Build a Better Burger Competition in the alternative burger category back in May. Other pork-faves are Bacon Wrapped Crab Stuffed Shrimp, Perfect BBQ Iowa Chops and BBQ Pig Sticks.

Perfect BBQ Iowa Chops: Did you know “Iowa Chops” are thick cut (1 1/4 inch) chops, bone-in or not? I like mine, bone-in because that will ensure you’ll have a portion of tenderloin on the other side of the bone. Yes please.

Meet Stephanie: She blogs at Been There Baked That. She’s bringing a delicious looking Sweet Potato Hash to our pork-nic. I love being able to use pork in different ways at breakfast too, and this dish could easily be made for breakfast lunch or dinner! She uses ground pork too, I love her.
Meet Kelli: Kelli blogs at The Sustainable Couple and she’s brining a mouthwatering Smoked Pork Loin (that has a brown sugar rub rolled up inside and SMOKED gorgeously, AND a copy cat of one of the best soups EVER, Zuppa Italiana Soup, just like Olive Garden! Don’t miss these recipes and her tips on butterflying pork loin. For the soup, I may have to use some of my spicy sausage that the butcher is making up!
Meet Yudith: She blogs about food and family at Blissfully Delicious! Her recipes do look blissfully delicious! Check out her pork offerings of Slow Cooker Smothered Pork Chops, Slow Cooker Pulled Pork, and Sautéed Pork Chops with Balsamic Onions. I’ll be making the sautéed chops with balsamic onions using the Iowa Chops I’ll be getting from Fred (the butcher).
Meet Val: She blogs at Corn Beans Pigs and Kids and also raises hogs and farms in Iowa. She always shares tasty recipes and she’s passionate about agriculture and volunteerism. She’s a great gal and has awesome pig-themed t-shirts. (I’m jealous!) She’s sharing her recipe for Sweet and Spicy Hog Wild Baked Beans! Yum!
