Deluxe Egg Nog Milkshake

Deluxe Egg Nog Milkshake
If you are down with taking your milkshake game up a notch, listen up. This time of year, it is no secret, I love AE Egg Nog and certainly like to take advantage of the holiday spirit I’m in when I’m drinking it. I do, however, think that this holiday drink is underused when it comes to pairing it up with a few other ingredients and using it in new fun ways.

Enter: The Deluxe Egg Nog Milkshake. You may think… okay mix a little ‘nog up with some ice cream… big deal.
NOPE.

We’re going to add a bit of texture to this ice cream drink and actually leave the ice cream and AE Egg Nog separate, and not blend them together. Why? You may ask. Let me tell you, I do have reasons.
See here: the drink is pictured right before the magical ‘pour over’ of AE Egg Nog.

Here’s why I do it this way:
#1. Leaving the components of the dessert separate lets you enjoy them on their own.
#2. I, for one, enjoy AE Egg Nog most, when it is ultra cold. Think of the ice cream as ‘ice cubes’ if you will.
#3. It is just better this way, trust me. Plus, the vanilla wafer crumbs at the bottom stay crunchier this way all through your dessert experience.

I hope you find yourself soaking up the holidays with the ones you care about most, and take advantage of all of the traditions you have in your family this time of year. Our dessert tradition is going to get a boost… and maybe yours will too. This is a great make ahead treat.

Tonight we’ll be wrapping gifts for our ‘giving tree’ family, we got to go shopping for them today. Watching the little ones of my son’s preschool and their generous hearts always restores my faith in humanity and gives me so much promise for the coming years.

Deluxe Egg Nog Milkshakes
Makes: 4 desserts
by: Cristen       www.foodandswine.com
Ingredients:
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream
36 vanilla wafer cookies crushed plus 4 more for garnish (40 total)
3 TBSP butter, melted
1 carton AE Egg Nog
1 cup AE Heavy Cream
1/4 cup powdered sugar
ground cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish
1. Scoop ice cream out into baseball sized balls, freeze on sheet tray. (This will keep the ice cream colder when assembling the desserts.)
2. Crush vanilla wafer cookies completely. Stir with melted butter. Divide among glasses evenly.
3. Whip heavy cream and powdered sugar together until stiff peaks form.
Assembly:
In each glass with vanilla wafer cookies at the bottom, place 2-3 ice cream ‘balls’. Drizzle on 1/2 to 3/4 cup egg nog (depending on size of your glass), top with whipped cream and sprinkle with cinnamon lightly. Garnish with one whole vanilla wafer and a maraschino cherry if desired.
