Chocolate Hazelnut Sheet Cake

I have a new obsession and you can find it in the dairy section of the grocery store here in Iowa. AE Dairy has struck again with a new seasonal milk flavor and it is out of this world. AE Chocolate Hazelnut Milk is incredible. If you have dreams of chocolate hazelnut spread, then this milk is for you!

My brother in law Drew is a cowboy with a craving for coffee. In previous years he took his coffee, straight up, aka: black with no “frilly treatments”. (ie: creamer, sugar, etc.) Fast forward a bit and he is a self proclaimed hazelnut aficionado (*see his notes in the photo below). When we revealed the “new holiday milk” at our most recent family gathering, he was serious about the taste test we had planned out.

Our whole family loves AE Dark Chocolate Milk, so that’s a given and it’ll be in the house 24/7 this holiday season. Where we tend to split hairs is over flavored chocolate milks. Some of my family members are mint-obsessed and others love hazelnut-chocolate goodies. We put these two holiday milk options to the test to see how the house would divide, via taste test. In the mint-lovers camp you’ll find me and all of my offspring. Loving mint must be a genetic thing, likely recessive, because my parents don’t prefer it like I do. My kids on the other hand, were eating mint ice cream before they went to preschool.

(*Isn’t the packaging adorable?)
THE TASTE TEST:

The taste test happened at our family dinner this past week and each family member had to rank on a 1-10 scale what they thought about each of the two offerings, AE After Dinner Mint Chocolate Milk and the new AE Chocolate Hazelnut Milk. After that the scores were tallied.
The contest ended in a dead heat. Tie. Even up.
Our house is divided: Team Mint vs. Team Hazelnut

And I was to be the tie-breaker in the decision.
Newsflash: I love both. I literally couldn’t decide which to drink first if they were both put in front of me.
Call me team Hazel-Mint because I won’t choose a side.

FINDINGS:

The mint-lovers stayed minty. Those who aren’t all that in love with mint (finished their samples and demanded more, respectively) gave the new AE Chocolate Hazelnut Milk 10+’s on a 10 scale. Their comments:
“Hazelnut rocks! Just switched my coffee to hazelnut also.”
“A great chocolate milk with extra pizzazz.”
“Their {AE} chocolate milk is always perfect, and adding the hazelnut dimension makes this drink more interesting and fun to serve at parties.”
“YUMMO! 10+/10 on the YUM scale! Can you get us some more now?”

In honor of the coming winter months and just wanting a good old fashioned slice of chocolate sheet cake, I made a cake and frosting recipe using AE Chocolate Hazelnut Milk. There will be one person who may be quite excited when he finds out.

Even though real cowboys don’t take “frilly treatments” in their coffee.
